P2459 Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Frequency

The ECU tracks how often active DPF regenerations are needed. P2459 is set when regenerations are requested more often than the calibrated limit, indicating that soot is building up faster than normal or that the soot estimate is incorrect.

Common causes

  • Excessive soot production from injector, EGR or boost faults
  • Faulty differential pressure sensor or hoses
  • Faulty exhaust gas temperature sensor
  • Incomplete regenerations due to short-trip driving

Typical symptoms

  • Check engine light (MIL) on
  • Frequent regenerations and higher fuel consumption
  • Rising engine oil level due to fuel dilution
  • Reduced power on some vehicles

P2459 and NuoVolta

If the DPF has been removed for off-road or motorsport use, where permitted by law, the NuoVolta DPF / ADV Removal solution disables regeneration in the ECU calibration and the DTC removal feature can disable this code. On a fitted filter, find the cause of the high soot production first.

Diagnose and repair real faults first. Removing or disabling emission systems is only permitted where allowed by law, for example for off-road or motorsport use.
