Diesel particulate filter (DPF)
P2458 Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Regeneration Duration
The ECU monitors how long an active DPF regeneration takes. P2458 is set when a regeneration does not complete within the calibrated time limit, so the soot load is not reduced as expected.
Common causes
- Driving too short or at too low a speed to complete regeneration
- Faulty exhaust gas temperature sensor
- Faulty differential pressure sensor
- Oxidation catalyst (DOC) not reaching the required temperature
- Injector, boost or EGR problems affecting exhaust temperature
Typical symptoms
- Check engine light and/or DPF warning light on
- Raised idle speed or cooling fan running after shutdown
- Increased fuel consumption
- Reduced power if the soot load keeps rising
P2458 and NuoVolta
If the DPF has been removed for off-road or motorsport use, where permitted by law, the NuoVolta DPF / ADV Removal solution disables regeneration in the ECU calibration and the DTC removal feature can disable this code. With the filter fitted, check the temperature and pressure sensors first.
