Secondary air injection is an emission control system used on many gasoline engines. During a cold start, an electric pump blows fresh air into the exhaust, upstream of the catalytic converter. The extra oxygen allows unburned hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) to burn in the exhaust, which reduces cold start emissions and helps the catalytic converter reach its operating temperature faster.
With this module, the secondary air injection function and its related diagnostics are deactivated in the ECU software. Workshops typically use it when the secondary air pump or its valves have failed or the system has been removed.
