Mass air flow (MAF)
P0103 Mass or Volume Air Flow (MAF) Circuit High Input
The ECU monitors the output signal of the MAF sensor. P0103 is set when the signal stays above the maximum expected value.
Common causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Faulty MAF sensor
- Poor ground connection
- Electrical interference from nearby components or aftermarket wiring
Typical symptoms
- Check engine light (MIL) on
- Rough running or hesitation
- Reduced power or limp mode
- Black smoke on diesel engines
P0103 and NuoVolta
If the MAF sensor has been removed for off-road or motorsport use, where permitted by law, the NuoVolta MAF Removal solution adjusts the ECU calibration to run without the MAF signal and the DTC removal feature can disable this code. Otherwise, check the sensor ground and wiring first.
Diagnose and repair real faults first. Removing or disabling emission systems is only permitted where allowed by law, for example for off-road or motorsport use.
