Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)
P0405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Sensor A Circuit Low
The ECU monitors the voltage of the EGR position or feedback sensor. P0405 is set when the signal stays below the minimum expected voltage for a specified time.
Common causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Open reference voltage circuit
- Faulty EGR position sensor, often integrated in the EGR valve
- Corroded or damaged connector
Typical symptoms
- Check engine light (MIL) on
- EGR operation disabled by the ECU
- Rough idle or reduced performance on some vehicles
P0405 and NuoVolta
When the EGR valve and its sensor have been removed for off-road or motorsport use, where permitted by law, the NuoVolta EGR Removal solution adjusts the ECU calibration and the DTC removal feature can disable this code. Otherwise, check the sensor supply, ground and signal wiring first.
