P2200 NOx Sensor Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

The upstream NOx sensor measures NOx concentration before the SCR catalyst and reports to the ECU, usually through its own sensor control module. P2200 is set when a fault is detected in the sensor circuit or its signal.

Common causes

  • Faulty NOx sensor or sensor control module
  • Damaged wiring or connector, often heat-related
  • CAN communication faults with the sensor module
  • Power supply or ground problems

Typical symptoms

  • Check engine light (MIL) on
  • SCR operation limited or disabled
  • Countdown to engine start restriction on some vehicles
  • Reduced power on some vehicles

P2200 and NuoVolta

If the SCR/AdBlue system and its NOx sensors have been removed for off-road or motorsport use, where permitted by law, the NuoVolta AdBlue / SCR / NOx Removal solution adjusts the ECU calibration and the DTC removal feature can disable this code. Otherwise, check the sensor power supply and wiring first.

Diagnose and repair real faults first. Removing or disabling emission systems is only permitted where allowed by law, for example for off-road or motorsport use.
