Oxygen (lambda) sensors
P0130 O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
The upstream oxygen (lambda) sensor measures the oxygen content of the exhaust before the catalytic converter and is used for fuel mixture control. P0130 is set when the ECU detects that the sensor signal or circuit does not behave as expected.
Common causes
- Ageing or contaminated oxygen sensor
- Damaged wiring or connector
- Exhaust leak upstream of the sensor
- Faulty sensor heater or heater circuit
- Fuel mixture problems
Typical symptoms
- Check engine light (MIL) on
- Increased fuel consumption
- Rough idle or hesitation
- Emissions test failure
P0130 and NuoVolta
When the oxygen sensor has been removed for off-road or motorsport use, where permitted by law, the NuoVolta Lambda / O2 Removal solution adjusts the ECU calibration and the DTC removal feature can disable this code. Because the upstream sensor is used for mixture control, test the sensor and wiring first on a road vehicle.
Related codes
Diagnose and repair real faults first. Removing or disabling emission systems is only permitted where allowed by law, for example for off-road or motorsport use.
