TCU TUNING

TCU tuning is the modification of the software of the transmission control unit (TCU). The TCU manages the automatic or dual-clutch transmission: it decides when to shift, how quickly gear changes are made and how much torque the transmission accepts from the engine. Factory calibrations are designed for a wide range of conditions and for the standard engine output.

With this module, the transmission calibration is optimized so that the gearbox works in harmony with the engine and offers a more responsive driving experience.

FUNCTION OF TCU TUNING

1. Shift Strategy:

Shift points and shift behaviour are adjusted for quicker and more decisive gear changes.

2. Torque Management:

Torque limitation values in the TCU are adapted so that the transmission can work with the higher torque of a tuned engine.

3. Driving Response:

Kickdown and downshift behaviour can be optimized for a better response during acceleration.

WHY WORKSHOPS USE TCU TUNING

  • As a complement to Stage 1 engine tuning, when the factory TCU limits the increased engine torque.
  • To improve slow or comfort-oriented shifting.
  • To match the transmission behaviour to the driving style of the customer.

NUOVOLTA SOLUTION OF TCU TUNING

NuoVolta provides a ready solution for this module, applied by the NuoVolta client to the original TCU file.

  • Apply the solution of the module related to NUOVOLTA.
  • Write the mod file to the TCU.
  • If required, reset the transmission adaptations with a diagnostic tool.
  • Check the dashboard and DTC logs. Take it for a test drive.
  • If all the checks are OK, it means the mod file is correct.

Note: Higher torque and faster shifts place additional load on the transmission. The mechanical condition of the gearbox should be checked before tuning, and the modification should be used responsibly and in compliance with local regulations.

Diagnose and repair real faults first. Removing or disabling emission systems is only permitted where allowed by law, for example for off-road or motorsport use.
