TCU Torque Limiter

NuoVolta provides a ready TCU Torque Limiter solution for 10 ECUs, including Temic DQ200, Temic DQ250 and ZF 8HPxx. Select your ECU below to see the details.

TCU TORQUE LIMITER

The transmission control unit (TCU) contains torque limitation values that define how much engine torque the transmission accepts, often separately for each gear and driving situation. When the torque demand exceeds these values, the TCU requests a torque reduction from the engine control unit (torque intervention).

After engine tuning, these factory limits can prevent the engine from delivering its increased torque. With this module, the torque limiter values in the TCU are adjusted to match the engine calibration.

FUNCTION OF TCU TORQUE LIMITER

1. Transmission Protection:

The torque limiter protects clutches, gears and other transmission components against excessive load.

2. Torque Intervention:

If the torque demand exceeds the limit, the TCU asks the ECU to reduce engine torque.

3. Gear-Dependent Limits:

Limits can be lower in certain gears or when pulling away, in order to control the load on the drivetrain.

PROBLEMS OF TCU TORQUE LIMITER

  • Power cut in certain gears after engine tuning
  • The expected performance gain is not reached
  • Inconsistent acceleration between gears
  • Torque intervention visible in data logs

NUOVOLTA SOLUTION OF TCU TORQUE LIMITER

NuoVolta provides a ready solution for this module, applied by the NuoVolta client to the original TCU file.

  • Apply the solution of the module related to NUOVOLTA.
  • Write the mod file to the TCU.
  • DTC codes should be read and removed with a diagnostic tool.
  • Check the dashboard and DTC logs. Take it for a test drive.
  • If all the checks are OK, it means the mod file is correct.

Note: Raising the torque limit places additional load on the transmission. The mechanical condition of the gearbox should be checked, and the modification should be used responsibly and in compliance with local regulations.

ECUs supported for TCU Torque Limiter

Grouped by ECU manufacturer, most requested first.

Diagnose and repair real faults first. Removing or disabling emission systems is only permitted where allowed by law, for example for off-road or motorsport use.
