Exhaust gas temperature
P2031 Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
Sensor 2 is located further downstream than sensor 1 and, on many diesel engines, is used to monitor temperature around the oxidation catalyst and DPF during regeneration. The ECU monitors the sensor circuit and sets P2031 when the signal is missing or outside its electrical range.
Common causes
- Faulty EGT sensor
- Wiring damaged by exhaust heat
- Corroded or loose connector
- Short or open circuit in the signal line
Typical symptoms
- Check engine light (MIL) on
- DPF regeneration disabled or not completed
- Reduced power or limp mode on some vehicles
P2031 and NuoVolta
When the DPF and its temperature sensors have been removed for off-road or motorsport use, where permitted by law, the NuoVolta DPF / ADV Removal solution adjusts the ECU calibration and the DTC removal feature can disable this code. Otherwise, test the sensor and repair the wiring first.
Diagnose and repair real faults first. Removing or disabling emission systems is only permitted where allowed by law, for example for off-road or motorsport use.
