P0471 Exhaust Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
The ECU checks the exhaust back-pressure sensor reading for plausibility against expected values for engine speed and load, and against atmospheric pressure with the engine off. P0471 is set when the signal is outside the expected range.
Common causes
- Blocked or cracked sensor tube or hose
- Faulty exhaust pressure sensor
- Exhaust restriction, such as a clogged DPF or catalyst
- Wiring or connector faults
- Sticking turbocharger vanes or exhaust flap affecting back pressure
Typical symptoms
- Check engine light (MIL) on
- Reduced power or limp mode
- Poor turbocharger or EGR operation on some engines
P0471 and NuoVolta
On engines where the exhaust pressure sensor is used for DPF or EGR control and that system has been removed for off-road or motorsport use, where permitted by law, the matching NuoVolta solution adjusts the ECU calibration and the DTC removal feature can disable this code. If the systems are still fitted, check the sensor tube and look for exhaust restrictions first.
Diagnose and repair real faults first. Removing or disabling emission systems is only permitted where allowed by law, for example for off-road or motorsport use.
